On the 21st September we held our Annual Apple Pressing Day – we have now been doing this for 5 years! A bumper crop this year meant that we had no shortage of fruit, and fortunately we had plenty of helpers to pick, wash, prepare, mill and press the apples. This is always a popular event with the children, who particularly enjoy the milling and pressing bits, and many who don’t normally like apple juice are converted once they have tasted it freshly made. After about 3 hours we had produced around 70 litres of juice, and as we waste nothing, the pulp is now being turned into cider and some of the juice will be used to make cider vinegar.
We also had our Biggest Pumpkin competition, with the winner being Alison with an excellent 10kg specimen.
